Whole Food, Plant-Based Recipe Golden Milk (Turmeric Latte)
Recipe courtesy of Maria Fernanda Hubeaut, Culinary EducatorGolden milk is soothing, anti-inflammatory, and delicious! It originates from Ayurvedic medicine in India, where it has been cherished for thousands of years as a healing, warming tonic.
Serves 2
Ingredients
2 cups unsweetened plant-based milk (soy, hemp, or oat for nut-free sipping; or almond milk, walnut milk, or other nut milk)
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder (or 1-inch fresh turmeric root, grated)
- Pinch of cinnamon
- ½ inch freshly grated ginger, or ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper (optional)
- 1 tsp date paste or maple syrup for sweetness (optional)
- Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
1. In a small pot, warm the plant-based milk over medium heat. Be sure not to boil it.
2. Whisk in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper (if using) until smooth.
3. Let simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until it becomes warm, stirring occasionally. Again, don't let it come to a boil.
4. Taste and adjust for sweetness.
5. Using a strainer, divide the milk into 2 cups and serve. Refrigerate any leftovers.
