Whole Food, Plant-Based Recipe Brown Basmati Rice

Brown rice is such a great staple to have around to use as a simple side or can also be enhanced with other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown basmati rice

  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 clove, whole
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

1. Optional but recommended: Place rice in 2 cups of water for 1-2 hours to soak. This helps to reduce the cooking time and the rice will be fluffier.
2. In a medium saucepan, roast cardamom pods, clove, and cinnamon stick over low heat until you get an aroma.
3. Add soaked rice with soaking water, or dry rice with 2 cups of fresh water, to the pan.
4. Cover and cook over low heat until rice is tender, 40-50 minutes.
